Location For Filming

The location of the shots we have taken were in several abandoned facilities and will be used in the production of our thriller film. The majority of our filming will take place at this location. We have chosen this location because of its intense atmospheric features which will give the thriller a more realistic feel because of its derelict situation. This location is also good for using lighting to create a sinister and eerie effect.

One Page Pitch for our Thriller Opening

Title:  The Covenant
Tag-line: "Tears, fears, secrets and lies, all which are kept, but non shall survive.." (takes there secrets to the grave along with anyone who knows)

this is to show the audience its a mystery thriller or that it will most likely involve a group of people as the main antagonists and give a general hint of secrecy or conspiracies

Audience: Our target audience is over 15's to 40 preferably interested in dense plot lines, most likely of higher age end audience as the plot would be intended to be complex and of a mature nature however we want to include gore and an occult feel to it so our audience stays specific but not to focused on the one area of mystery. they would be into mystery conspiracy and horror novels and movie and would be fairly outgoing but mature the audience are still outgoing age so would be able to easily access to see the movie while at the same time are mature enough to enjoy the adult plot, additionally most of the UK’s population is aged to that same target audience range at roughly 40% of all age ranges in the UK according to my source such as Demography. It is mainly a male bias film as it involves themes such as gore and crime that most Men are interested by and few females.

Reasons: my reasons for this audience were simply due to the genera i picked is easy to diverse into subgenera's and its category has usually a large but specific niche fan base an example of a current popular mystery is Harry potter and since its release there has been no other popular mystery's, this means all other genera's such as action or horror have more films developed in that area less so in mystery leaving a gap in current films and less competition in said area.

Protagonist: The idea of the protagonist is to relate and almost pity his situation this means as well as caring for him by pitying him the audience would feel as though they need to know what happens to him and connect this also relates to the interest and connections to the audience.

Interest and connection to audience:  By placing your average person in a completely outstanding and shocking situation the goal was to make him react how someone would scared and confused, making the thriller much more relatable and realistic I intend to also place scenes that don’t show what the antagonist sees to make the audience keep watching in order to see what he saw that terrified him so much.

Story:  the story is essentially about a school kid who hears about an abandoned warehouse after a while his interest peaks and he can't resist exploring the area for it, upon stumbling onto it he's immediately overcome and looks around before he discovers something a secret in one of the derelict graffitid rooms that fills him with regret and fear and some mysterious figures noticed and they want the secret to die with him.

Visual realisation: after researching a few films there's 1 film in particular which had lighting that was extremely affective its called sanctum and although the contents are extremely different the shots are unique as they frequently used lights behind the actors to create silhouettes these give an eerie outline to the characters and builds suspense and I wish to apply this to my thriller. Additionally i wish to add vibrantly contrasting scenes in order to create contrast much like how barths narrative codes are used to make the audience feel a sense of good and evil with bright colours and black.

The cost of the thriller will be mainly from buss travel and props depending how many times we need to travel to our location to film.
